KINDERGARTEN PYP UNITS OF INQUIRY
THE GOAL
Kindergarten is an exciting, dynamic place to learn, play and grow! It is through an emphasis on academic, social, emotional, physical and cultural growth that we encourage globally-minded thinkers. Our goal is for learners to become internationally-educated citizens through a focus on the development of positive attitudes towards self, towards people, towards the environment and towards learning. Life-long learning is developed through an inquiry-based, hands-on learning approach. The curriculum, learning and attitudes are synthesized in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program embodied in the student profile.
At Lakecrest, the PYP Units of Inquiry are developed using the provincial curriculum and then extended to include additional outcomes to offer enrichment and develop a global view. Students have the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of other cultures while also learning about themselves and making deep connections. While undergoing this personal development that is a required component of the PYP, students develop an understanding for learning and how the knowledge obtained can be used to take action and make the world a better place. Keeping with the PYP principles and the culture of the school, students, parents and teachers work collaboratively to encourage and develop the IB "student profile". The natural curiosity of young children is nurtured through Units of Inquiry.
